Cricket drying is an effective method of preserving crickets as a high-protein food source. Dried crickets can be ground into fine powder to enrich a variety of products like protein bars, baked goods, and smoothies. Additionally, crickets are increasingly used as animal feed, especially for reptiles and birds, offering a nutrient-rich and environmentally friendly alternative. Using cricket powder as animal feed not only helps reduce the environmental impact of traditional feed sources but also promotes sustainable agricultural practices. As an eco-conscious protein source, cricket powder is gaining traction in the culinary and agricultural industries alike.
Our in-house designers and engineers have produced countless great designs for customers from different industries
1. Kill the Crickets: Various methods can be used to humanely kill crickets, such as freezing, CO² asphyxiation, or blanching.
2. Clean: Use a commercial spray washer to rinse the crickets and remove any debris.
3. Blanching (Optional): To disinfect and improve drying efficiency, submerge the crickets in boiling water for 1-2 minutes.
4. Drain: Use a vibrating dryer or air blower to remove excess moisture.
5. Batch Tray Placement: Evenly arrange the crickets on stainless steel trays (depth ≤ 3 cm) to ensure uniform airflow. IKE offers dryers with various capacities, allowing you to place crickets according to the machine’s maximum load specifications.
6. Set Temperature, Humidity, and Time: Adjust the temperature to 50-60°C (120-140°F) to preserve protein quality and avoid overheating. Customize the humidity and dehydration time based on your desired results and specific requirements.
7. Dehydration Process: Start the IKE cricket dryer, which will operate automatically according to your settings and can be monitored remotely.
8. Drying Complete: The crickets should be brittle and snap easily, not bend.
9. Packaging and Storage: Once dried, the crickets can be processed into powder or packaged whole for storage.
With the IKE dryer, individuals and businesses can efficiently dry large quantities of crickets to meet various commercial and industrial demands.
